Location And Directions
Interested and qualified patients are invited to attend an informational
lecture in which the disease of morbid obesity and treatment options,
including surgery are discussed. Expectations, pre-surgical planning,
the operative procedure, and the long-term responsibilities are discussed.
Patients will be provided with an extensive historical questionnaire
and will return this along with insurance information to our bariatric
coordinator at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, so that we may begin
the approval process. All patients will be provided a "Gastric
Bypass Users Manual", which contains the answers to most of your
questions, as well as outlining your responsibilities.
All patients will be required to have a psychiatric evaluation,
and some will be required to have specialized testing including
heart work up, lung workup, or sleep apnea studies.
After the operation, several lectures will be scheduled for you,
including nutritional lecture, vitamin and mineral supplementation,
stretching and strength training, and a discussion of social and
emotional changes. We encourage all of our patients to attend our
on-going regularly scheduled support groups. There are a number
of "on-line" support groups available for patients who
live too far to conveniently return to Gainesville on a regular
basis. Remember, however, that anyone can post anything on the internet,
and it must all be considered with that in mind.
Our program is designed to maximize your success. If you have suggestions
on ways to improve our program, please let us know.
